Vendor Spotlight June 12th – Close to Home Organics

This week we are going to shift our focus to a Vendor who has been with the Langley Farmers Market for over 10 years…Close to Home Organics!

Farming is hard work, there is no doubt about that! And at Close to Home Organics, the people behind the beautiful produce put their heart and souls into producing the freshest most delicious fruits and veggies they possibly can for their customers. Close to Home Organics is a small-scale, family farm operation in Abottsford that uses sustainable practices.

The word “Organic” seems to be used lightly but, be rest assured that the farm is certified organic by the BC Association for Regenerative Agriculture.

Hard at work getting the carrots ready!

Did you know?

Close to Home Organics is a CSA Community Shared Agriculture! According to Economics Discussion Meaning of Cooperative Farming Society:

“When various farmers in a village pool there land together and agree to treat the pooled piece of land as one big farm for the purpose of cultivation, purchase the necessary inputs for the cultivation, and market the crops jointly, they are assumed to have formed a cooperative farming society. Such a society, for its proper working elects its office bearers on the basis of one member-one-vote.

The office bearers look after the proper cultivation of new farm that emerges after the land of various farmers has been pooled. The ownership of the land still lies with the respective members of the society and they withdraw from the society whenever they so like.

This year Close to Home joined forces with Earth Apple Organic Farm and Snowy Mountain Organic Farm to offer a joint CSA program.

The combined Community Shared Agriculture program allows customers the following amazing features:

  • Pick-up locations throughout the Lower Mainland (Vancouver, North Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Port Moody and Langley)
  • One share size with various season options: Main Season (15 weeks) and Extended Season (24 weeks)
  • A Fruit Share option, supplied by Snowy Mountain Organic Farm
  • The ability to put your box on hold during holidays
  • Weekly e-mail updates about the growing season and the opportunity to visit the farm at our annual Open House.

Paige and her husband Chris along with their children are the hard workers that make up the team at Close to Home Organics. We caught up with Paige last week and asked her what was the best part of being a vendor at the LCFM and she told us “Connecting with our amazing customers!” Be sure to pop in and say hi to Paige on Wednesday. She will have a welcoming smile and be happy to chat with you about all things produce and farming!!
