2019 LCFMS AGM – March 13th, 2019 – 6:00PM
This year’s AGM will feature a ‘changing of the guard’ as we say “Thank You!” and “Good Luck!” to Cherise McGee, as she leaves us to go back to school, and “Welcome!” to the person who will replace her as Market Manager (stay tuned for that announcement shortly!).
Our AGM will also feature Dr Tracy Stobbe who will be sharing results from valuable research her team conducted on shoppers and their habits at our market.
Dr Stobbe, an Associate Professor of Economics at Trinity Western University, has studied three farmers’ markets in the Lower Mainland (including the Langley Community Farmer’s Market) to investigate who is shopping at farmer’s markets and why.  Using surveys, her team investigated the shopping habits and demographics of consumers and she is joining us at our AGM to take us through the findings.  For instance, do people who use parking spend more?  Do people who have children at home find the hours convenient?  Are more-educated shoppers willing to spend more on local food? These, and many more questions, can be examined to find patterns which are helpful to farmers’ market managers and vendors.

Dr. Tracy Stobbe is an Associate Professor of Economics at Trinity Western University.  She holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Victoria and a Master’s of Public Policy from the University of California Berkeley.  She has been researching issues in agricultural economics for 15 years, particularly focusing on the “urban fringe” – the zone where city and country meet.
